The microchip is a device of the size of a rice grain that is implanted in the back of the pet’s neck by means of an injection. It is also an entry requirement for your pet to most countries and becomes its identity number. There are two kinds of microchips: a 10-digit microchip and a 15-digit microchip. In PETWINGS we only use the 15-digit device, also called the ISO microchip. These are the only ones that can be universally read with almost any type of scanner. Although the needle by which the microchip is inserted is a little larger than a standard vaccination needle, with a bit of ice in the area to insert the microchip, the process is almost painless and extremely quick.
